First Mates
(Junior Counselors)
Responsible to: Captains
Start & End Date: June 20 – August 31
Position: Volunteer
Job Description: Along with the Skipper (Senior Counselor), First Mates will lead a group of campers (about 10) and have the privilege of building a relationship with them throughout the week. A First Mate must be emotionally and spiritually present to his/her campers for their week at camp. This position is very important to the success of the camp: we, as an entire staff team, set out to protect you and build you up so that you are ready to love every single camper that is in your cabin.
Desired Qualifications:
- Minimum 17 years old
- Experience working with youth and children
Specific Responsibilities:
- Support Skipper in his/her role as Senior Counselor
- Assist with daily Bible study and discussion sessions
- Instruct activities during Seatrades (activities) and free time
- Responsible for the safety and whereabouts of campers at all times
- Show enthusiasm and commitment in all activities
- Demonstrate Christ-like attitude and lifestyle to campers
General Staffing Principles
All staff will actively pursue the ministry of the camp through the application of biblical principles in his/her leadership of and personal relationships with the staff and campers. Staff must be dedicated to showing humble servant attitudes through putting others ahead of themselves, looking for the betterment of the camp as a whole, and helping out not only in tasks, but also emotionally and spiritually in the unity of the staff team.
