Deckhand Directors
(Work Crew Directors)

Position: Paid
Job Description: Team of two (male and female) responsible for planning and leading Deckhands (first level of Leadership Training Program) in a variety of jobs, including kitchen, janitorial, and maintenance tasks. Also responsible for teaching sessions in spiritual development. The Deckhand program is intended to encourage and challenge youth in their faith and build Christian leaders with a sincere desire to serve the Lord.
Desired Qualifications:
- Minimum 21 years old
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License
- Boating License
- Experience in commercial dishwashing and janitorial work helpful
- Experience working with teens
- Willingness to be outgoing and enthusiastic
- Can take initiative
- Ability to lead small and large group Bible teaching sessions
Specific Responsibilities:
Communicate with the Head Cook to ensure that meals are out and served properly. Also to offer the Head Cook any help when it is needed.
Lead a group of 10-20 grade 10-11 youth
Meal Times (ensure completion of)
- Set tables
- Serve food
- Clear and clean dining and kitchen area
- Dishwashing
Camp Cleaning (ensure completion of)
- Daily cleaning of camper cabin bathrooms
- Daily cleaning of staff/public bathrooms
- Daily empty garbage, and as necessary remove from island
- Help maintain general cleanliness of grounds.
Other
- Assist with food runs
- Lead daily Bible teaching sessions
- Attend weekly senior staff meetings
General Staffing Principles
All staff will actively pursue the ministry of the camp through the application of biblical principles in his/her leadership of and personal relationships with the staff and campers. Staff must be dedicated to showing humble servant attitudes through putting others ahead of themselves, looking for the betterment of the camp as a whole, and helping out not only in tasks, but also emotionally and spiritually in the unity of the staff team.
