Climbing Instructor
Responsible to: Activity Captains
Start & End Date: June 20 – August 31
Salary: Paid
Job Description: Design and teach a curriculum for each age group, ensuring the highest standards of safety and teaching. The Climbing Instructor will ensure that all other climbing staff are appropriately trained and operate within the program guidelines. The Climbing Instructor will provide a fun and safe environment for campers to acquire/develop climbing skills.
Desired Qualifications:
- Minimum 19 years old
- Formal training, certification from Canada West Mountain School, ACMG. (i.e., Climbing Gym Instructor level 2 or Top Rope Climbing Instructor)
- Standard First Aid Certificate
- Experience teaching climbing
- Knowledgeable of climbing equipment and care
Specific Responsibilities:
- Design a curriculum to be followed during Seatrades
- Set up and inspect all climbing gear, anchors, and climbing terrain daily
- Retire and replace any equipment which shows signs of damage, wear, or has reached the end of its life
- Supervise instruction during all climbing periods
- Train all other climbing staff in safety procedures and teaching curriculum
- Assist with special program events as needed
General Staffing Principles
All staff will actively pursue the ministry of the camp through the application of biblical principles in his/her leadership of and personal relationships with the staff and campers. Staff must be dedicated to showing humble servant attitudes through putting others ahead of themselves, looking for the betterment of the camp as a whole, and helping out not only in tasks, but also emotionally and spiritually in the unity of the staff team.
